Atlantic Jewel Definitely Running In Memsie

Champion mare Atlantic Jewel will resume her spectacular career in Saturday’s Memsie Stakes.

Mark Kavanagh gave the thumbs up to the Group 1 at Caulfield after an inspection of the track, gaining relevant weather information and news of how it would be prepared.

Speculation raged during the day that Atlantic Jewel may not run as the Memsie Stakes is to be run as the last race on the eight race program.

Coolmore, which race the mare, had expressed concerns about what state the track would be in after about 100 horse had raced on it before the Memsie.

Caulfield track manager Jason Kerr said he expected the track to be a Dead 4 with a possibility of it improving to a Good 3 on Saturday.

Kerr said the forecast is for showers in the days leading up to Saturday.

He added that he applied six mml of irrigation yesterday and depending on the rainfall would apply between five to 10 more mml before Saturday.

Kavanagh said Atlantic Jewel, which hasn’t raced since her All Aged Stakes victory at Randwick in April last year, had pleased him in her work leading into the Memsie.

Track clockers had Atlantic Jewel break 35 seconds for her final 600 metres on Tuesday at Flemington.
