Murray Baker is against a change in It’s A Dundeel’s programme and would prefer to head to the Group 1 BMW next with the son of High Chaparral.
The option of the Group 1 Doncaster Mile has been raised by John Messara, whose Arrowfield Stud is a part-owner of the stallion, after the four-year-old’s third placing in last Saturday’s Group 1 Ranvet Stakes.
“Whether running him in a 2400-metre, which is a further increase in distance, is going to help or whether he should consolidate his fitness by running at a slightly shorter distance is a decision we’re going to have to arrive at with Murray,” Messara said.
But Baker says it would be unwise to run the four-year-old in the Doncaster Mile on the way to the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 19.
“I think it would be a mistake to run him in the Doncaster with 58 (kg), it would kill him,” he said. “I will be happy to stay on the same track. It’s worth noting that they weren’t winning from off the pace on Saturday.”
