Beauty A Chance For Coolmore Back-Up

Wayne Hawkes has confirmed that the stable will likely accept on Wednesday and make a decision later in the week as to whether emerging filly Written Beauty joins stablemate Doubtland in Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).

The daughter of Written Tycoon broke Nature Strip’s 1000m track record in a sizzling performance at The Valley on Friday night to take her record to three wins from four starts.

While he believes she can hold her own at the elite level, Hawkes is also wary of exposing the filly to Group 1 pressure so early in her career and indicated that Written Beauty could instead tackle a Listed race for fillies on Oaks Day.

“Written Beauty is a chance, we didn’t just chuck her in for no reason,” Hawkes said on RSN.

“We might accept with her.

“Is she good enough? Probably but she lacks experience and history tells you that you can be good enough but when you lack the experience at the deep end, it’s very tough under pressure.

“The right race for her really is on Oaks Day, an 1100m three-year-old fillies race.

“We’re just trying to look after her.”

Hawkes said Doubtland, who won the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) down the straight at Flemington last month before running third in the Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick, would travel from Sydney to Melbourne on Thursday.

“He worked off the charts in Sydney on Friday and goes good up the straight so he’d be our best on Saturday,” he said.
