Bel Sprinter progressed nicely towards his first-up assignment later this month with a soft trial on Monday at Cranbourne.
With Damien Oliver, booked to ride him throughout the spring, hardly moving on him, Bel Sprinter ran a close second behind Shamal Wind in a 800 metre trial.
Trainer Jason Warren was pleased with the trial, especially given he did not want to fully extend Bel Sprinter.
“Basically, we just wanted him to have a day out,” Warren said.
“He’s only really had a few improving gallops since he’s been back in work, but he’s tracking along beautifully.
“Hopefully, I might be able to give him a gallop between races somewhere along the line.
“He’ll be ready to go when it comes to the Moir.”
Warren has set Bel Sprinter, which hasn’t started since his second behind Hong Kong speedster Lucky Nine in the KrisFlyer International Sprint in Singapore in mid May, for the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday, September 27.
He said the six-year-old would then head to the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200 m) at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate eve then the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200 m) on the final day of the VRC carnival.
