Outstanding mare Commanding Jewel is back in work and being aimed at the $1.35 million Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) in Brisbane.
Trainer Leon Corstens told Racing Network on Friday that the half-sister to former champion mare Atlantic Jewel had been back in work at his Romsey stables for some time and was in fantastic condition.
“She’s brilliant, in stunning condition, and we’ll try and get her ready for the Stradbroke,” Corstens said.
Commanding Jewel hasn’t raced since her dominant win in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington during the Spring Carnival.
She injured a hamstring muscle and has been off the scene since.
“All she is doing at the moment is plenty of exercise on the water-walker and lots of swimming but she looks enormous, strong over the hindquarter – really encouraging,” Corstens said.
Commanding Jewel won the Group 1 Thousand Guineas as a three-year-old and the now four-year-old has only raced twice since.
