John Hawkes had a simple reason for booking Corey Brown for five of the stables runners at Randwick on Saturday.
Hawkes noted that Brown, who has been riding in Singapore for the past nine months, was the “best available” jockey.
He said he could not remember the last time Brown rode for him, but he and sons Michael and Wayne were “happy” to book Brown.
Brown, who rode during the Melbourne spring carnival and partnered Super Cool in the Melbourne Cup, is booked to ride Greco, Notlistenin’tome, Real Surreal, Leebaz, Moriarty, Jolie Bay and Unimpeachable.
“He’s just back for the day,” Hawkes said.
Hawkes said he hasn’t decided if Notlistenin’tome, runner-up behind Zoustar in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, will resume at Randwick.
Notlistenin’tome, a trial winner at Rosehill on Tuesday, is also entered for the Zeditave Stakes at Caulfield.
“His trial was okay, nothing special, but he’s come through it okay,” Hawkes said. “I haven’t made up my mind yet if he’ll run Saturday.”
Hawkes said Nostradamus had trained on well after finishing fourth behind Rubick in the Blue Diamond Prelude and had overcome a quartered heel.
“Everything is fine with him,” Hawkes said.
