Joe Pride and Josh Parr closed the Rosehill program in the best possible fashion, winning the final two races with Green Beret and Keep Cool.
Parr rode a perfect race aboard Keep Cool, rolling forward at a good tempo, getting his rivals off the bit and then holding them off late with great tenacity.
Keep Cool started $14 in the betting ring and was too good for Dream Folk and Excess Knowledge, who appeared to have every chance as a heavily backed favourite.
“I had about 300m, or 400m, where I had a nice easy time and it was just enough,” Parr said.
“I was full of running turning for home and I thought I’d only need a few of them to be off the bit coming through the softer patch on the track to be hard to run down.”
The double was well received by Joe Pride, who is set to gain 29 boxes from Wendy Walter, the stables formerly utilised by Guy.
“No one expected the unfortunate passing of Guy but it seemed like the perfect opportunity for myself, not wanting one out of someone elses grief but really close friends with Guy,” Pride said.
“He and John Size I would consider my mentors, John is in Hong Kong and Guy is the first person I would go to for advice, I’d love for him to give me advice but unfortunately he is no longer with us.
“Fantastic trainer and it is an honour to be taking over his stables.
“There are 29 boxes there so I can’t have any more boxes and yards, at this stage I’d love to fill it but I’ve just got to see what happens.
“It is only one of his stables but his main stable, it is a lovely stable, you wouldn’t get a nicer environment for horses.”
