Trent Busuttin described as “excellent” El Roca’s condition as he heads into Saturday’s Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill, but he’s wary of a deteriorating track
Busuttin said El Roca had improved from his emphatic first-up win in the Eskimo Prince Stakes at Rosehill a fortnight ago.
He said the colt handled the Dead 5 ground in the Eskimo Prince, but hoped the forecast rain would not see the track deteriorate beyond a Slow category.
Currently, Rosehill is rated as a Dead 4, but showers are forecast tomorrow and Saturday.
“He’s thrived in the warm weather since he’s got here and we’re looking forward to getting him back to the races,” Busuttin said.
“It’s a pretty good field, you could make a genuine case for half a dozen of them.
“Certainly, the draw is not ideal, but it’s like the weather you can’t control it. He’s a horse where you know where he’s going to be – outside the leader or in front.
“There doesn’t appear to be a huge amount of speed, but we’ll just leave it to Hugh.”
Busuttin said the Hobartville would provide a greater insight into the “pecking order” of the Group 1 Randwick Guineas in a fortnight.
“We’ll get an idea where we sit,” he said.
