Estonian Princess Wins By Barest Of Margins

Scott Aspery recorded his first Saturday metropolitan winner in style as Estonian Princess scored a narrow win in the Group 3 James HB Carr Stakes at Royal Randwick.

Under the guidance of Brenton Avdulla, Estonian Princess charged late to beat Northern Glory by a nose with Lady Lakshimi a close third.

“It is fantastic. It is my first Saturday metropolitan winner and it is a Group 3,” he said.

“I’ve had midweek city winners but this is my first Saturday.

“She is just tough. Whatever you throw at her she just does 100 per cent. She doesn’t always get the result but she tries hard every time.

“We went to the Adrian Knox instead of the Carbine Club because we thought that gave us more options going forward if we went to the Oaks.

“She didn’t run the 2000 (metres) so we dropped her back in distance and it was fantastic, it looks like the seven furlongs is just right for her.”
