Local trainer Gai Waterhouse will mount a three-pronged attack on Saturday’s $100,000 Listed-Inghams Love’em Winter Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Waterhouse will be represented by Under the Sun (Thomas Huet), the early $3.80 favourite on TAB fixed odds, along with Kontiki Park (Hugh Bowman, $11) and Kinnersley (Kathy O’Hara, $26).
Under the Sun has been most competitive finishing in the top two placings at four of his past five starts, including a last start second to Mic Mac in the LR-Civic Stakes (1350m) at Rosehill on 6 July.
Kontiki Park was having his second run from a spell when fourth (3.6 lengths) behind Merlin Mustang over 1500m at Rosehill on 1 July lugging 60kg and he will appreciate a 2.5kg drop on Saturday under the quality handicap conditions.
One of the other main races at Rosehill is the $85,000 Alpha Flight Services (1100m) – the final event of the day – with the David Vandyke-trained Choice Words (Blake Spriggs) holding joint favouritism at $4.20 with Kris Lees’s Whitlam (Christian Reith).
Choice Words has not raced since failing at Rosehill in March but has a good record first-up, while Whitlam was not far away last start when fifth behind Master Harry at Rosehill (1200m) in his first run for four months.
Australian Turf Club received a pleasing 103 acceptances for the 8-race program with the first event kicking off at 12:25pm. The track is currently slow (7) with the rail to be placed 8m out for the entire circuit.
