Exciting filly Srikandi’s place in Saturday’s Tattersall’s Tiara will be determined after a 1000-metre gallop on Tuesday morning at Eagle Farm.
Trainer Ciaron Maher said he would decide whether to pursue the $500,000 Group 1 race after the filly’s work.
Champion jockey Glen Boss will ride Srikandi, who has progressed from a three-year-old Benchmark 64 race in late March to become one of the leading Australian fillies in training.
Srikandi strung together five successive wins including the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes before her gallant third, beaten 1.1 lengths behind River Lad, in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm on June 7.
“I told the owners I’ll see how she works (Tuesday) and then make up my mind,” Maher said.
The Tatt’s Tiara attracted 25 nominations, including the Darren Weir-trained Lonhspresso, who will work the Brisbane way of going Tuesday at Ballarat with race jockey Ben Melham to ride.
Weir said that if Lonhspresso worked as expected she would be flown to Brisbane on Wednesday to take her place in the Group 1.
