Lloyd Williams said the weight-for-age form is the best guide to finding the winner of Saturday’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.
And, for that reason Williams believes his Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon can feature prominently in the outcome of the $4 million race – the headline event of The Championships.
Williams described Green Moon, who hasn’t started since his second behind Fiorente in the Australian Cup, as in “perfect order”.
“I could not be happier with him,” enthused Williams.
He rated New Zealanders It’s A Dundeel and Silent Achiever as the ones to beat.
“They have the best form in the very best races. The weight-for-age form is a better guide than the handicaps.”
While Green Moon has not raced on a heavy track, Williams noted that he trialled the former European in “very heavy ground” at Cranbourne and also galloped him in “very heavy ground” at Bendigo.
“I think he’ll handle it alright,” Williams said.
“Mourayan is hopeless on it and that’s why he’s not in the Sydney Cup. He and Tanby will run in the Easter Cup.
“I think the winner will come from It’s A Dundeel, Silent Achiever and Green Moon.
“Green Moon just needed the run in the Australian Cup. He will run well.”
