Guy To Continue Good Run With Regular At Lismore (Fri, 22nd Apr)

Gold Coast trainer Bryan Guy crosses the border into Lismore on Friday hoping the stable’s good recent run continues with six-year-old gelding Regular.

Since transferring back to the Gold Cast in mid-February, the Guy stable has led in 15 winners and plenty of placing’s.

Last start winner Regular lines up in the Hernes Freight Lismore Autumn Hcp (1400m).

Regular is raced by Amalgamated Milk Services Pty Ltd, managed by Guy’s long term client Jim Forsyth and Guy’s wife Kerry.

The gelding is coming off an all the way last start win in a 1400m Benchmark 75 event at the Gold Coast on March 23 following a 49-day break.

That was the gelding’s third run since resuming from a 137-day spell back in late December.

Guy has spaced the gelding’s races due to his not being quiet right.

“He’s had a few freshen ups because he just wasn’t right in himself,” Guy said. “We eased off him and tried to pick him up in different ways. His coat was awful and he wasn’t happy in himself.

“We just tried different things with him and he’s really turned the corner now. His coast looks a million dollars. He probably looks the best we’ve had him in a long while.

“I thought he last start win was very good and he’s done well since the run.”

Guy admits Regular is not an easy horse to get a good line on through trackwork.

“He just does what he has to,” Guy suggested. “He’s older now and too smart to put too much in.

“He’s fit and well though and it does looks a nice race for him. It’s hard to find the right races for him because he’s short of Listed class and he gets big weights in these types of races.”

Regular has been burdened with 62kg topweight but to offset the impost Guy has engaged three kilo claiming apprentice Gina Mitchell for the ride.

Mitchell is apprenticed to David Kelly on the Gold Coast.

“She’s had a couple of rides for me and done nothing wrong,” Guy said. “We needed a three kilo claimer and she fits the bill.”
