Hawkesbury’s Stayers’ Series Kicks Off On Thursday (8th August)

Hawkesbury’s successful Stayers’ Series is on again this year and swings into action this Thursday (8th August).

Designed to cater for horses with distance capabilities between 1600m and 2100m, the series is once more being conducted with the backing of Mitavite.

Hawkesbury Race Club chief executive Brian Fletcher, in announcing the 2013 series, said eight heats would be run at the track leading into the final on Thursday, November 7.

“Trainers who believe they have horses with staying potential should certainly be targeting our series,” Fletcher said. “Our new longer straight is going to ensure some exciting racing over the coming months.

“Mitavite will provide a $500 voucher to trainers of each heat winner and a $2500 voucher to the trainer of our final winner.”

This Thursday’s opening heat of the Mitavite Stayers’ Series will be a 1600m Maiden Plate. This will be followed by a Benchmark 70 Handicap (2000m) on Thursday, August 22; forming an important part of the program for the Panthers Hawkesbury Gold Cup on its new date.

Remaining heats will be as follows:-

AUGUST 31 – Maiden Plate (2000m);
SEPTEMBER 12 – Class 1 Handicap (2000m);
SEPTEMBER 22 – Class 1 Handicap (1800m);
SEPTEMBER 26 – Benchmark 60 Handicap (2100m);
OCTOBER 13 – Class 2 Handicap (2000m);
OCTOBER 24 – Benchmark 65 Handicap (2100m)

The Mitavite Stayers’ Series final at Hawkesbury on November 7 will be run as a Class 4 Handicap over 2100m.

The Gold Cup was previously run on this date, which coincides with the VRC Oaks on the third day of the Flemington spring carnival. Conditions for all races during the 2013 series will be the same as last year.
