SNITZERLAND
Snitzerland has a great opportunity to claim her first win at Group 1 level at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
Gerald Ryan’s four-year-old mare has nine rivals in the Moir Stakes of which five are also yet to win at Group 1 level.
Snitzerland is a noted on-pace runner who should enjoy a nice run just behind the speed from barrier three with Buffering, Le Bonsir and Conservatorium all expected to settle ahead of her.
Snitzerland was an emphatic first up winner last campaign in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Warwick Farm under weight-for-age conditions. She defeated Decision Time by 2¾ lengths.
It took a super performance by Bel Sprinter in the Group 1 Galaxy (1100m) to beat Snitzerland second up last prep.
Snitzerland’s performance in the Group 1 Robert Sangster (1200m) should be ignored. It was not a true indication of her ability, and she was subsequently spelled.
With an excellent first up record (three wins from four starts) Snitzerland should be primed for her biggest test to date, and a recent barrier trial win confirmed as much.
SAMAREADY
Former top juvenile Samaready takes a huge step in her quest to prove herself among the land’s best sprinters when she tackles Friday night’s Group 1 Moir Stakes.
The Mick Price-trained mare was an outstanding two-year-old, winning her first four starts including the Blue Diamond Stakes, and placing third in the Golden Slipper behind Pierro, and her Moir Stakes rival Snitzerland.
Samaready returned in the early part of the three-year-old season and finished fourth behind Elite Elle in the Quezette Stakes before being sidelined with injury.
12 long months went by for her connections before they saw their prized sprinter resume at Caulfield on August 31 and rewarded their patience.
Samaready was a brilliant winner against the males in Group 3 company over 1100m, showing no signs of having lost her ability.
A Group 1 weight-for-age test is a far cry from that race, however Samaready is very much still untapped and it would come as no surprise to see her measure right up.
