ATC Australian Derby third place-getter Hooked is right at the top of his game heading into Saturday’s Group 3 $150,000 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) in Sydney.
Trainer John Thompson told TVN Hooked had done extremely well since his brave run when third behind Criterion in the Derby and he would be going into Saturday’s clash at Randwick in fine shape.
“He’s freshened-up really well since the Derby,” he started.
“His work since has been nice and sharp – he’s in good shape,” he added.
“He’s going as good as he can go – it’s up to him now.
“He goes better on top of the ground and it should be better ground on Saturday and that definitely suits him,” he said.
Hooked has drawn barrier eight in a field of nine in the Frank Packer Plate and the son of Casino Prince is rated the second favourite for the race at $3.40, behind David Vandyke’s Arabian Gold, who is a solid $2.90 favourite.
