Incentivise Claims Makybe Diva Stakes

Boom Queenslander Incentivise made the immediate leap to Group 1 level on his debut for trainer Peter Moody on Saturday, winning the $1 million PFD Food Services Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.

Brett Prebble took Incentivise ($3.90 favourite) to the lead and controlled the tempo of the race, ambling through the opening 800 metres in 50.31 seconds, before closing the second half of the race in 46.34s.

Mo’unga ($4.40) settled fifth, one off the fence and surged late for second, with reigning Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet ($31) rushing home for third. Tofane ($3.80 favourite) raced outside the lead and didn’t see out the mile, finishing fourth.

Moody indicated that Incentivise will have his next start in the G1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 2, ahead of the Caulfield Cup (2400m), for which he is the $5 favourite with Sportsbet, on October 16.

The victory provided Moody with his first win at G1 level since he claimed the William Reid Stakes (1200m) with Flamberge in March 2016.
