Highly fancied Caulfield Cup contender Jet Away will not open his spring campaign in Saturday’s Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington.
David Hayes said he’d spoken with Jet Away’s owner, who lives in Europe, and he preferred the horse to resume in the Underwood Stakes (1800 m) at Caulfield on September 21.
Hayes said the owner was keen to keep in place Jet Away’s affinity with Caulfield, the track where he won the Group 3 Easter Cup last season.
He added that Jet Away had been working well at his Euroa property and expected him to make an impact this spring.
Jet Away, unbeaten in his two Australian starts, is a $13 chance in the fixed odds market for the Caulfield Cup.
Jet Away was given 53.5 kg when Racing Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter released the weights on Wednesday for the Caulfield Cup.
