Lindsay Park Builds Goodwood Team

The Lindsay Park team of David Hayes and Tom Dabernig could saddle up as many as five runners in South Australia’s premier race, The Goodwood.

Hayes was left rueing a missed opportunity when Sheidel went down by a nose to Precious Gem in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes on the opening day of the Adelaide carnival.

Sheidel was pestered by stablemate Miss Promiscuity, who had earlier lost rider Luke Nolen and actually crossed the line first.

“She got beaten an inch and her genuine stablemate – same colours, same owner – probably cost her more than the inch she got beat,” Hayes said.

“So she could’ve easily been the winner of the race going into The Goodwood.”

Provided they both pull-up well, Hayes expects both mares to go to The Goodwood.

Another one who has the opportunity to go in that direction is Faatinah, who earned a ballot exemption for the race after winning the Group 2 Euclase Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday.

“We think he’s a potential Group 1 sprinter,” Hayes said.

“He was quite dominant, but he was exposed a long way from home.

“I think he’ll go to another level.

“In a year’s time I think there will be Group 1 winners dotted in this race. I think it’s a true Group 2.

“We’ll look at The Goodwood.”

Veteran sprinters Fast ‘N’ Rocking and Churchill Dancer have also been set for The Goodwood.

It was a good day for Lindsay Park, which recently set-up a satellite stable at Morphettville run by Hayes’ eldest son Ben, collecting a double with Moqla also winning the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes.
