Martin Hoping For Home Town Win For Owner Paul Tydd At Gunnedah (Sun, 8th May)

Tamworth trainer Craig Martin is hoping Abundance Of Heart can win back to back races for part-owner Paul Tydd when the mare lines up at Gunnedah on Sunday.

Tydd, who owns the four-year-old, is a Gunnedah Jockey Club committeeman and races the daughter of Mutawaajib with his partner, Toni Reid.

Abundance Of Heart cost a mere $3500 at the Scone yearling sales.

“She was a cheapie but she goes all right,” Martin said. “I thought she would have won her maiden before this. She was overdue.”

Martin was referring to the mare’s last start three length win in a 1400m maiden at Tamworth on April 24 when she hit the front at the 200m and raced right away.

That was the mare’s sixth race start. She has recorded five other placing’s.

Abundance Of Heart resumed from a 184-day spell with a two lengths second to Parjinka in a 1200m maiden at the same track on April 4.

Martin believes the mare is looking for 1600m but is happy to bide his time.

“She’s definitely looking for a mile but we’re marking time at 1400 metres,” Martin added. “Last time in she showed she could do something and I’m glad she’s finally won a race.

“She’s a big mare but only lightly framed. She doesn’t cop a lot of work that’s why I’ve held her back getting up to the mile. She wouldn’t cope with the work needed yet.”

Martin has been pleased with Abundance Of Heart’s progress since Tamworth although admitting he hasn’t done a lot with the mare.

“I haven’t done a lot with her but what she has done has pleased me,” Martin said.

“It’s always hard to win a maiden then a Class 1 next start but she gets her chance on Sunday.

“With the claim she gets in good at the weights.

“I’ve done all I can do.”

Abundance Of Heart lines up in the Wideland Group-GJC Celebrating 150 Years Class 1 Hcp over 1400. After Rachel King’s 1.5kg claim, the mare will carry 57kg and launches from barrier four.
