Bjorn Baker described Magic Millions winner Unencumbered as “bang on” as he begins to ramp up his Golden Slipper campaign.
Baker said Unencumbered, a winner of five of his six starts, would trial at Rosehill on Tuesday in readiness for his first-up run in the Silver Slipper (1100m) at Rosehill on March 1.
He said Unencumbered would run in the Silver Slipper and Todman Stakes leading into the $3.5 million Golden Slipper at Rosehill on April 5.
“I’m really happy with him, he’s bang on,” Baker said.
“He had two and a half weeks in the paddock after the Millions.”
Baker noted that Earthquake and Rubick looked impressive in winning their respective Blue Diamond Preludes, but he could not get caught up worrying about other stables’ horses.
He said that Unencumbered had the “runs on the board”, had travelled and, significantly, had twice raced over the Slipper distance for two wins.
“He’s done something that the others haven’t done yet and that’s win over 1200 metres and win well both times,” Baker said.
With Fighting Sun breaking down, Unencumbered is now an $8 second favourite behind Earthquake for the Golden Slipper.
