Mike Moroney’s exciting Pins four-year-old Rhythm To Spare will tackle Group 1 company in the Toorak Handicap if he runs well at Caulfield today.
“He’s a very good horse and one day I think he’ll be a Group 1 horse,” Moroney said.
Today at Caulfield, Rhythm To Spare will tackle a hot field in the 1400-metre Open Handicap, and in latest fixed-odds betting he is marked the heavily backed $4 second favourite, behind Stephen Theodore’s Don’t Get Excited, who is now out to $3.70.
“I don’t really know if he can beat them over the 1400 metres from a wide gate, but I do know he’ll be very strong late.
“If they are running on he’ll be hard to hold off,” Moroney said.
“If he runs well today, we’re going to have a crack at the Toorak with him.
“We think he’s good enough,” he added.
Moroney also has the speedy in-form mare Octavia contesting the Sportingbet Sprint Series (formerly the How Now Stakes), and he says she appears to be in very good order.
“I can’t fault her work. She did a really nice piece of work here on Tuesday and we haven’t done anything with her since,” he said.
Octavia is marked the firming ($4.20 into $3.80) favourite in latest fixed-odds markets from barrier one.
Dwayne Dunn will ride Octavia again as he did at Flemington in the Let’s Elope Stakes two weeks ago.
