Craig Newitt is putting down Samaready’s below standard performance as aberration as the mare aims to add another Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
Newitt said the Newmarket Handicap run, where the mare finished sixth behind stablemate Lankan Rupee, had been the only time he had been disappointed in her.
He said he was prepared to forgive that run and go into the William Reid in the belief she is the best horse in the race.
“I will be riding her like she didn’t have a race the other day and riding her like she is the best horse,” Newitt said.
“The other day was the first time she had ever let me down. I thought she had to have pulled up with a problem.
“I’m just hoping it was the straight and back around a bend and at track that she performs well at that she can rebound.
“I know if she is right she will win, she is the best horse in the race.”
Samaready has drawn barrier one, a gate that Newitt believes is beneficial.
“She could easily lead, she has been among the first out in her past couple of starts,” Newitt said.
“She will have the speed to be there if they want me to, but I haven’t spoken to Mick (Price). I know there is not a lot of speed.
“I’m happy to be where I am than draw out where some of the other chances are.”
Samaready is a $3.20 favourite in the opening market with Shamexpress second pick at $4.80.
