Danny O’Brien will be the caretaker trainer of Prince Harada while Tony Vasil recovers from illness.
O’Brien said he was asked by the owners, including Viv Oldfield, who also part-owns Cox Plate winner Shamus Award, to look after Prince Harada while Vasil recuperates.
He said Prince Harada had been at his Barwon Heads training complex since he ran seventh in the Australian Guineas behind Shamus Award earlier in the month.
“He will be with us while Tony is recuperating and when he does the horse will go back to him,” O’Brien said.
“I have been asked to take over while Tony is out of action.”
O’Brien said the plan is to freshen Prince Harada for a few weeks then assess what direction the colt will head.
Shamexpress emerged without issue from his fourth in the Newmarket Handicap behind Lankan Rupee and will now head to the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200 m) at Moonee Valley on Friday week.
O’Brien said he still was keen to take Shamexpress, the winner of the 2013 Newmarket Handicap winner to Sydney for the $2.5 million TJ Smith at Randwick on April 12.
