Overreach Eases In Golden Rose Market

Overreach is an easing favourite for next month’s $1 million Golden Rose after running second in a barrier trial on Monday.

The Golden Slipper winner made her first appearance since April when she was overhauled by her stablemate Marseille Roulette, albeit in a fast 1050m heat at Randwick.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse said she would discuss plans with owner George Altomonte before committing the filly to the Golden Rose (1400m) on September 14.

Overreach is out to $5 after being installed the TAB’s $4.40 favourite for the Golden Rose.

Sidestep, an unlucky fourth in Saturday’s San Domenico Stakes is at $6 with the unbeaten Eurozone at $7.

The David Hayes-trained Fast `n’ Rocking was a big firmer from $26 to $9 following his close second to Sidestep’s Darley stablemate Safeguard in Saturday’s Vain Stakes at Caulfield.

Overreach hasn’t raced since she finished third in the Sires’ Produce Stakes won by Guelph in April.

Waterhouse-trained horses won 11 of the 17 trials at Randwick on Monday.

The Peter Snowden-trained Guelph, who also won the Champagne Stakes, comes up against Group One placegetter Zoustar in a 900m heat.

Zoustar, from the Chris Waller stable, is at $9 for the Golden Rose and is expected to return on Saturday week.
