David Hayes is keen to back-up Petrology in the Sandown Guineas after troublesome colt got the cash at Flemington.
Petrology put on a performance in the pre-parade ring before entering the mounting yard and Hayes believes his manners could be improved with gelding.
“We need to work out what he will be worth as a stallion or what he would be worth as a racehorse,” Hayes said.
“I think he has more value in being a race horse and he will be a better horse if he is gelded.
“The Sandown Guineas might tell us a little more about what we should do with him.”
Petrology settled off the speed and worked to the middle of the track late, holding off the fast-finishing Chill Party with Tashbeeh running third.
“I think the best ride won the race,” Hayes said.
“Dwayne (Dunn) gave him every possible chance and to me he just ran out the 1800m.
“After his last run I thought he was looking for 1800m or further, after watching that I think he would be better at a mile.”
