After narrowly failing to post an historic win in (Saturday)’s Goodwood, Platelet will be sent for a spell.
Darren Dance, whose Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock race Platelet, dismissed suggestions that the mare would head to Brisbane for the $1.36 million Stradbroke.
Dance said it had always been Darren Weir’s intention to give Platelet, seeking to become the first horses in 100 years to win back-to-back Goodwoods, a four run autumn campaign.
“She’s going to the paddock, she ran super. It was always the plan for her last run to be in the Goodwood,” Dance said.
“We will give her a spell and bring her back for the spring.”
Platelet was grabbed in the final few strides by Smokin’ Joey, which gave Wez Hunter his first Group 1 success and Ben Melham successive wins in the Goodwood.
Former Chris Waller-trained stayer Kelinni debuted with a nine and a half length sixth for Marco Botti in Listed Buckhounds Stakes at Ascot, won by the OTI syndicate-owned Gatewood.
Dance said Kelinni was caught deep throughout and the run best forgotten. He said the horse would now have another run before next month’s Royal Ascot carnival.
