No one more surprised than Michael Rodd to get the call up to ride Red Tracer in Saturday’s George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill.
Rodd said he could not offer a reason as to why Chris Waller selected him to ride the dual Group 1 winner in the $1 million race.
“I’ve got no idea how I got the ride,” Rodd said.
“I’ve had success for with Chris before in this race. I won this race with Metal Bender a couple of years ago.
“Maybe it was a field and everyone else was taken, but I’m more than happy that I was chosen.”
Rodd said Red Tracer went into the George Ryder with an undeniable chance, especially with the likelihood the track will be rain affected.
He said the mare appeared to be a dream to ride.
“She’s a champion mare, she’s a dual Group 1 winner, she races on the speed and makes her own luck,” Rodd said.
While Red Tracer has drawn wide in barrier 13, Rodd does not believe that will be a negative by the time the race rolls around.
Rodd said he expected the horses drawn inside him to be heading out of the fence by that time of the meeting.
“I can’t wait to ride her,” Rodd said.
Regular rider Nash Rawiller was booked for My Kingdom Of Fife in the race when Waller decided to change tack and run Red Tracer in the George Ryder.
