Last year’s Victoria Derby winner Polanski has run his last race.
Trainer Robbie Laing confirmed on Tuesday the latest veterinary advice was the horse would not recover from his tendon injuries to race again.
“I got a phone call from the vet last night and he put it simply the damage to the tendon was far too great to suggest he could ever race again.
“He said it was a career-ending injury,” Laing said.
The horse can be saved for a stud career, however, and Laing said he had already had a few offers.
“We’ve had a few offers from the west and I would have thought he was an ideal horse for New Zealand with Zabeel and Pentire either finished or coming to the end of it,” Laing said.
Polanski was pulled up after contesting last week’s Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) and it was originally feared the horse could not be saved.
“At least we have been able to save the horse which is something,” he added.
Polanski was a $4000 yearling sale purchase and he won $1,173,565 in stakes from just 10 starts with four wins.
