Warwick Farm trainer Gary Portelli is hoping the track at Doomben this Saturday doesn’t have the same bias it had last Saturday.
“That worried me, the fact that it was so ‘leaderish’ last week. I hope it’s not like that again,” Portelli told Racing Network on Monday.
“As soon as they got wide that was the end of them,” he added.
Portelli will be lining up his stable star, Rebel Dane, in Saturday’s Group 1 $650,000 Doomben 10,000, and reports the horse is in brilliant order.
“He’s perfect, done all his work and we’re just keeping him ticking over now,” he said.
“All we want now is a decent barrier and with that he’ll be very, very competitive on Saturday,” he added.
Rebel Dane has only raced twice this preparation for a brave second behind Lankan Rupee in the Group 1 $2.5 million T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m), and a fifth behind Japanese mare Hana’s Goal in the Group 1 $400,000 All Aged Stakes (1400m).
“He’ll run on Saturday, then have his last run in the Stradbroke before going for a break,” Portelli said.
