Last year’s early Emirates Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune is pleasing trainer Darren Weir after returning to work recently at his Ballarat stable.
On the comeback trail after injuring a tendon in the Sportingbet Cox Plate, Weir said the six-year-old import was progressing well.
“He’s at Ballarat at the moment and he’s ticking along nicely, everything’s good,” Weir said.
“He’s just doing a bit of treadmill work at the moment to build his fitness.
“He’ll head down to the Warrnambool stable in another couple of weeks.
“It will still be a while before he starts working on the sand dunes again.”
Unlikely to be aimed at this year’s race that stops a nation, Weir had mentioned the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in September, a race in which he finished a narrow runner-up last year, as a possible option for Puissance De Lune this Spring Racing Carnival.
