Sydney’s boom three-year-old Savvy Nature will not run in the $2 million ATC Australian Derby (2400m).
Trainer John O’Shea unveiled his radical plans for Savvy Nature to Racing Network on Monday morning.
“He can’t run in the Derby and the Queen Elizabeth, so I’m thinking we can bring him back to The Doncaster, then back him up a week later into the Queen Elizabeth,” he announced.
Savvy Nature will trial at Rosehill Gardens Tuesday week, then resume in the Hobartville Stakes 10 days later.
“He’ll then go to the Randwick Guineas and the Rosehill Guineas, then we’ll bring him back to the Doncaster.”
Any trainer with a high quality galloper is planning on running in the ‘new’ Queen Elizabeth Stakes, now worth $4 million at the inaugural running of The Championships (on April 18).
The Doncaster Mile a week earlier on April 12now carries a massive $3 million in stakes.
In the Spring, Savvy Nature impressively won the Spring Stakes at Newcastle before running second in the Gloaming Stakes, third in the Spring Champion Stakes, winning the AAMI Vase, all before running 14th in the Victoria Derby behind Polanski.
After the Derby in Melbourne, O’Shea himself raised doubts whether Savvy Nature was a genuine stayer.
