Peter Snowden is looking to kick off Sessions’ autumn assault in the Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick on March 15 following a barrier trial win at Rosehill Gardens on Tuesday morning.
The lightly raced four-year-old showed his trademark turn of foot in the closing stages of the trial, bursting away from his rivals to win the 900m heat in a time of 54.7 seconds from Chatham House and Party Dress.
Sessions finished a close third behind Buffering in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes last preparation at Moonee Valley before disappointing down the straight in the VRC Sprint at Flemington.
“I think he is a much better horse around a bend, he just doesn’t seem to settle up the straight,” said trainer Peter Snowden.
“Coming back to Sydney and having races where he is comfortable right-handed should hopefully bring out the best in him.”
Snowden said Sessions would resume in the Challenge before progressing to the Galaxy (1100m) and TJ Smith Stakes (1200m).
