Sidestep Out Of BTC Cup With Joint Issue

Sidestep will not run in the Group 1 $400,000 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Trainer John O’Shea (on Tuesday) told Racing Network the horse had gone to the spelling paddock and would not be seen again until the Spring.

O’Shea said the horse had a minor joint issue which would correct itself quickly, but he had decided to spell the horse.

“I rang the stewards in Brisbane last night (Monday) to tell them the horse wouldn’t be running in the race, but somehow it hasn’t got out there,” O’Shea said.

“He won’t be running on Saturday.”

Sidestep has won his past two starts, the Darby Munro Stakes and the Royal Sovereign Stakes during the Sydney autumn carnival.
