Significant Prizemoney Increases For The 2016 Taree Cup Carnival

Taree-Wingham Race Club has announced significant prizemoney increases for both days of the 2016 Taree Cup Carnival weekend which will be conducted on Friday 19 and Sunday 21 of August.

TWRC Chairman, Greg Coleman, said: “With the assistance of Racing NSW, prizemoney in Country NSW is set to increase to a minimum of $20,000 per race from July 1 so it seemed an appropriate time to review prizemoney for the major races of our Cup weekend.

“Prizemoney across the two racedays of the cup weekend will increase by $100,000. There has not been an increase in the Taree Cup prizemoney for some years.

“The club is very pleased to announce that the cup prizemoney will increase from $60,000 to $80,000 with the aim of attracting city class horses to compete in the 2000 metre event. The 2016 cup will again be sponsored by Stacks Law Firm.

“The feature sprint race on the cup day has been changed in distance from 1250 to 1000 metres and will have a new race name ‘The Manning Lightning’ and have a substantial increase of $25,000 in prizemoney.

“The club is very pleased to welcome the Mid Coast Automotive Group as a new sponsor to the club which will include the 2016 ‘The Manning Lightning’. The very popular 1000 metre 3YO Maiden Plate on the cup day program will now race for $22,000 in prizemoney.”

The first day of the cup weekend will have a new race moved to this day – the Hopkins/Livermore Open Handicap Cup over 1400 metres with $30,000 in prizemoney. This race was first conducted in October 2015 by Taree-Wingham Race Club and is sure to be an attractive race with a permanent place on the first day of Taree-Wingham Race Club’s cup weekend.

There have been some amendments to some of the support races on both days which will provide very attractive programs for owners and trainers to enter their horses across the cup weekend.
