Speediness Resumes In Expressway

Colin Scott faces his Emirates Stakes nemesis when Speediness opens his Sydney autumn campaign in the Expressway Stakes next month.

Scott was philosophical about bumping into Boban, the horse that beat him in a three way photo in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes at Flemington last spring, in the Expressway.

“Unfortunately, we have to take on Boban, but I suppose that’s the way it goes,” Scott said.

Scott said Speediness, who ran fourth in the Toorak Handicap, second behind Toydini in the Crystal Mile and third in the Emirates last spring, has been back in work for about eight weeks.

He said the Sydney program – Speediness will run in the Apollo Stakes, another 1400m race and then the George Ryder – leading into the Doncaster Handicap.

“And, he’s a dead set better horse with the sting out of the ground,” Scott said.

“I’m more likely to get some cut out of the ground up there than I am down here. His form on a Dead track is fantastic compared to his form on a Good track.”

James McDonald has been booked to ride Speediness, which won the Scone Cup last autumn, in the Expressway.

Ironically, Speediness bumps into another Emirates Stakes horse – Smokin’ Joey – when he trials at Sportingbet Park on Friday.
