Summary Of Our Trainers Tips For Today’s Racing (29th April)

From Edward Cummings

Horse: Arts
Message:
(Saturday, Morphettville Race 9, Australasian Oaks) Arts brings the strongest formline to the Oaks, having won the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes at Randwick earlier this month and then backing up with a 5th in the Group 1 ATC Oaks. She’s ticked all the boxes for us to want to send her down (to Adelaide). She’s very fit and very well, the 2000m is a great distance for her. She’s one of only two horses in the race who has won at the trip and she’s done it in Group 3 company and in dominant fashion. Every indication she has given to us has been very positive. I think the race is an interesting one because a lot of the main chances have drawn out. If you go back through the last 10 years of the race, a large majority of them have been run along at an even tempo at the very least. But she dominated an Adrian Knox field on a very slow pace and I would think if they go slow it’s only going to suit her.

Horse: Bianco Vilano
Message:
(Saturday, Rosehill Race 2, Highway Hcp) That weight (63.5kg) was a shock, so we talked it over again. We’d programmed this after the Championships Final and booked ‘J Mac’ well before the weights came out. He’s ridden for us before, so if the best is available at the time, you go with them. And we didn’t want to miss a run when we had him ready and hadn’t nominated elsewhere. And with that weight you have to be confident of getting the right ride. He’s a big strong gelding and that much weight isn’t as much a factor as it is in staying races. And that level of prizemoney while we’re eligible. If we stay at the regionals he gets similar weight for a quarter the prizemoney. Still immature but tremendous natural ability. They just don’t do what he did at Albury out of restricted grade at four. And he didn’t have much luck in the Final either. He can race closer, midfield or better with James. Early preparation he did lead in a race at Wagga, and I didn’t want it that way – he’s best with cover.

Horse: Anagain
Message:
(Saturday, Rosehill Race 4, Alan Davidson Hcp) Anagain is quite a smart mare. She didn’t have a lot of luck last preparation but she is going well, I’m happy with her, and she drawn a good barrier (three). I will have a think about Euros as she is no good in the wet. She’s coming up nicely but there is a race for her next Wednesday if we decide not to run at Rosehill.

Horse: Silent Agenda
Message:
(Saturday, Rosehill Race 6, Toyota Forklifts Handicap) Silent Agenda followed his Kensington midweek win with a good 2nd in open company at Warwick Farm behind Cognac before his fading last start 6th to I’ve Bean Tryin’ in a Benchmark 78 race at Warwick Farm. There is a real pattern in Silent Agenda’s race record that shows he doesn’t carry weight. When he has to carry more than 58-59kg he looks like he labours under the weight like he did last start with 61kg. But when I get him down in the weights like I did two starts ago in an open handicap he can run out of his skin. He has won a couple of Saturday races with no weight on his back which is the case with him this weekend. If we get any rain on the day that’s no problem for him, either.

Horse: Coal Crusher
Message:
(Saturday, Rosehill Race 9, Kerrie Borger Hcp) After three competitive runs at Group 3 level since resuming including his last start 4th to Vilana in the Hall Mark Stakes, Coal Crusher is well placed in the main Rosehill race. I am thinking of taking Coal Crusher to Brisbane for the carnival after Saturday but he would be needing to win this race to earn the trip north. But he is in the right race, he does take a bit of racing but he’s rock hard fit now and I would be surprised if he doesn’t run very well.

Horse: Brutality
Message:
(Saturday, Rosehill Race 9, Kerrie Borger Hcp) Brutality hasn’t won since his Group 2 Villiers (now The Ingham) Stakes success nearly 18 months ago but the gelding is working his way back into some sort of form after two runs from a spell including his closing 6th to Tamerlane in similar Benchmark 100 grade at Randwick two weeks ago. I thought Brutality went well last start. The blinkers are back on, Rosehill is his favourite track and he races well there, and it’s likely he will get the soft track he enjoys.”

Horse: Cotehele
Message:
(Saturday, Rosehill Race 9, Kerrie Borger Hcp) Cotehele runs in the Kerrie Borger Handicap on Saturday and if the four-year-old performs to expectations, he could back-up in The Coast (1600m) at Gosford seven days later. We’re thinking we’ll get through Saturday then I wouldn’t be averse to backing him up in The Coast. He should run a mile off his pedigree and it’s a pretty easy mile around Gosford. That race has traditionally been dominated by on-speed runners so it’s an option for us. Cotehele will tackle 1400m second-up on Saturday after battling on gamely to finish 4th behind the in-form Tamerlane on resumption at Randwick two weeks ago. He will take natural improvement from the run and I am keen to get him back to Rosehill where he is yet to finish further back than 2nd in two runs. First-up on testing ground, he just got found out the last hundred. That run should bring him on a bit. He loves Rosehill and hopefully that can make a difference on Saturday. His work has been fantastic all preparation. He worked on Tuesday and worked brilliantly again, so he hasn’t gone backwards.
