Summary Of Our Trainers’ Tips For Today’s Racing At Rosehill (Sat, 16th Jan)

From David Pfieffer

Horse: Monte Ditto
Message: (Saturday, Rosehill Race 5, Schweppes Hcp) It was a good, solid run last start, he got held up for a fraction near the turn and that probably cost him a length and a spot in the placings, but it was a super effort. Wide gates and his pattern of racing have brought him undone in the past but the horse can reel off some very good sectionals when it all goes right. His work was great on Tuesday and I expect him to be right in the mix again on Saturday. The good gate (barrier five) will be a real asset. Jason Collett is back in the saddle on Saturday.

From Richard Litt

Horse: Lancaster bomber
Message: (Saturday, Rosehill Race 5, Schweppes Hcp) He’s been a very good consistent horse and very good for our stable. He was actually a cheap buy for only $30,000 so he’s done very well for his owners. The Denman gelding’s last 16 starts, he has remarkably finished in the top five on 15 occasions. It’s tricky (from gate 8) and there’s a little bit of speed. Sam (Clipperton)’s had the one ride on him now so I’ll leave it up to him. It will be interesting to see where he ends up in the run but I couldn’t imagine he’d be too far away.

Horse: Catapult
Message: (Saturday, Rosehill Race 9, Rosehill Bowling Club Hcp) He’s an extremely unlucky horse, he should’ve won about three or four more races than he has. He got back the other day after stepping slow and he flew home for 4th. The five-year-old won’t know himself on Saturday with apprentice Reece Jones claiming 3kg to bring his weight down to 51.5kg. He’s got a good young rider on that claims and he’s got a very good turn of foot when he’s ridden cold. If he can get the right run in the race and Reece doesn’t get too panicked on him he’ll have a big finish on him that’s for sure.

Horse: Proven Class
Message
: (Saturday, Rosehill Race 3, TAB Highway Hcp) He’s formed a super combination with Winona Costin with a dominant 1800m TAB Highway win at Royal Randwick last prep and a powerful 3rd in the 2000m Country Classic at Rosehill. The combination is in the zone with winning momentum and confidence. I don’t bring them to town unless I think they can win. On her form she’s very well-placed. I’m thinking last prep they were probably stronger races than this Saturday. We’re back in distance but she’s forward enough.

Horse: Blaze A Trail
Message: (Saturday, Rosehill Race 7, Ranvet Hcp) Blaze A Trail missed the spring due to a virus and having jarred up. Blaze A Trail had done very well during his break and I couldn’t be happier with the horse’s lead-up to returning. We are looking forward to getting him back to the track on Saturday. He’s now a powerful, big bully. The three-year-old colt had been tuned up for a comeback to racing with two excellent Randwick trials. He’d probably have to be at his best to win over 1300 metres in that company but he’ll run well. He looks like he will get to 2000 metres and beyond and with his speed and turn of foot, it’s a big plus. We are looking towards the Queensland Derby but there’s a lot that needs to go right.
