Summary Of Our Trainers’ Tips For Today’s Racing (Sat, 11th Sept)

From Joseph Pride

Horse: Private Eye
Message: (Saturday, Kembla Grange Race 7, Theo Marks Stakes) A dazzling first-up victory in the Show County Quality took his record to seven wins from 10 starts. It was just good to see him put it all together so early in the prep. He’s set his preparation up really well. I’m pretty keen to give him one more before the Epsom so it will either be back up in the Bill Ritchie or wait two weeks for the Shannon and that will be decided by what we see on Saturday.

From Brad Widdup

Horse: Icebath
Message: (Saturday, Kembla Grange Race 7, Theo Marks Stakes) The five-year-old returned in great order with a first-up 3rd in the Show County Quality. She was caught wide and didn’t get a lot of luck. She gave the first couple of horses three and four kilos, so it was a good, tough run. You just want to see them race well (first-up) and that’s what she did. An awkward draw in 9 is likely for her to be ridden conservatively. She needs to run but we won’t be doing anything too silly. It’d be nice to get a bit of cover and hit the line.

From John Thompson

Horse: Fituese
Message: (Saturday, Kembla Grange Race 6, Sheraco Stakes) An impressive first-up winner of the Toy Show over 1100m. It’s just a matter of time before that happens (winning at 1200m). She ran out a strong 1100m the other day and covered ground doing it. As long as she gets on a somewhat dry surface she’ll be right. I think she will get further myself. (Rachel) King has galloped Fituese twice this week, on Saturday and Tuesday. She said when she. She said when she jumped off the horse’s confidence is just so high she’s in the zone. She’s just in great order.

Horse: Chat
Message: (Saturday, Kembla Grange Race 7, Theo Marks Stakes) The gelding finished seventh behind Private Eye three weeks ago but Thompson said there were excuses. He didn’t stretch out last time, he’s a big heavy horse with white feet and the track was quite firm that day. We gave him a freshen up on the water walker for a week and he’s come back ready to rip again. He’s such an honest horse.

Horse: Dunbrody Power
Message: (Saturday, Kembla Grange Race 9, Quayclean Hcp) Dunbrody Power was a dual acceptor but she has scratched from the Sheraco Stakes. With good fortune she can put herself in the finish. She hasn’t had much luck of late, the 1000m was too short the other day and I can see her bouncing back.

From Michael Travers

Horse: Mathrin
Message: (Saturday, Kembla Grange Race 1, TAB Highway Hcp) The daughter of Deep Field will be on an eight-day back up after finishing a close 2nd in a Class Three at Albury in her most recent start. She’s going really well, I don’t do a great deal with her. She just doesn’t take a lot of work. She doesn’t like going to the track, so we don’t take her there. She’s just very, very cranky. Kicks the walls, kicks at everything, kicks at other horses, things like that. She doesn’t like being there, so we don’t take her. She worked nicely this (Tuesday) morning and so she’s on track to head down to Kembla.

From Scott Aspery

Horse: Uzziah
Message: (Saturday, Kembla Grange Race 8, Run To The Rose) He’s shown every indication that he’s a pretty smart colt, but he’s just taken a little while to learn his craft. I think he’s going to measure up to the better grade in time, whether this being his first preparation It’s a bit soon we’ll find out on Saturday, but he’s progressive and on the upward curve. Even though we’ve taken the easier path towards the (Golden) Rose, he has been racing against the older, more seasoned horses and beating them at Taree and then probably should’ve beaten them at Gosford. He deserves his chance to see where he measures up against the better three-year-old’s.
