Last season’s champion two-year-old filly, Guelph, returned with a stunning last-to-first trial win at Rosehill Gardens this morning.
The winner of the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes and Group 1 Champagne Stakes was the clear dominant filly of her generation and she has obviously returned in grand style.
Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, fresh from his double on Safeguard and Octavia at Group level at Caulfield on Saturday, Guelph charged along the inside of the field to narrowly beat Gerald Ryan’s Charlie Boy by a half head in 54.3 for the 900 metres.
Charlie Boy must be getting used to chasing Guelph, as he did so in the Golden Slipper, Sires Produce and Champagne Stakes in the autumn.
