Kris Lees is taking Thump to Melbourne for the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night over the Coolmore Classic.
“The Coolmore is so strong, as expected, and while the William Reid Stakes is tough Group 1, it looks the easier options of the two,” Lees said.
“I feel Thump is better suited at 1200m than she is at 1500m, especially at the top level and she has also won around Moonee Valley.”
Thump didn’t fire a shot in her first run for Lees but then bounced back with a big performance to win the Surround Stakes, beating the best three-year-old fillies in Sydney.
Jim Cassidy will head to Moonee Valley on Friday night for the ride on Thump.
Lees will still be represented by Sharnee Rose and Lucia Valentina in the Coolmore Classic.
“Sharnee Rose would definitely be the pick, this is the race we have been targeting all along and I think she is coming to a peak at just the right time,” he said.
