Tommy Berry has continued his tremendous form in Hong Kong, steering Designs On Rome to a narrow win in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin.
Designs On Rome, who Berry rode to victory in the Hong Kong Derby, charged from the back of the field to defeat Military Attack in a driving finish, giving trainer John Moore the quinella.
Berry won his first Group 1 in Hong Kong aboard Miltiary Attack in the corresponding race last year.
“I know everyone was rapping the Japanese horses but we haven’t found the bottom of this bloke yet, once he gets up to his distance beyind 1800m he is unbeaten,” he said.
“To do that at his age, I think next preparation he is going to be a better horse.
“This is my first Group 1 for Nathan over here so it is very special, I believe I’m riding a lot better now that I’ve got my brother on my shoulder, two for the price of one.”
