Prince Harada is an easing favorite for the Golden Rose because of concerns over his inside gate, but trainer Tony Vasil doesn’t share the fears.
Vasil believes barrier one will suit Prince Harada, which will have his first start the Sydney way in the $1 million race at Rosehill.
The Caulfield trainer doesn’t think that Prince Harada will get as far back as many observers map out the Golden Rose.
“Given its his first run right handed, which I don’t think he’ll have an issue with anyway, he’ll have the running rail to follow and look at and he’ll have horses on his outside to help him get around that way,” Vasil said.
“I really think he’ll jump with them and he doesn’t need to get as far back as he has been.
“I don’t think it will be a problem. It’s certainly much better than drawing 15, 16 or 17.
“If you draw your first go right handed and you’ve got nothing to see or guide you, what ends up happening is that you end up wide and getting lost.
“If he can get a good run through the race and around the corner if Hughie can pop out and get clear running he’ll be charging.”
Vasil will float Prince Harada, whose connections paid a $50,000 late entry fee into the Golden Rose, tomorrow.
The fixed odds market has Prince Harada the $4.60 favourite just ahead of Fast ‘N’ Rocking, $5, which defeated him in the McNeil Stakes.
