Anthony Cummings believes he unearthed a Victoria Oaks contender when his Fastnet Rock filly Wordplay won at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
Although she won a Maiden by a short margin, Cummings said he was looking directly at the Oaks in Melbourne in November.
“She’s a half-sister to Fiveandahalfstar (last year’s Victoria Derby winner) and I’m sure she can end up in the Oaks and complete the family double,” he said.
Wordplay was having just her second race start after having run second on debut to Killcareless at Warwick Farm two weeks ago.
“She’s a strong filly with really good ability and I’m sure she can take the next step now,” winning rider Peter Robl said after the race.
