While Boban missed a place on Saturday for the second successive start this preparation, Chris Waller hasn’t lost faith in his Epsom/Emirates Stakes winner.
Waller viewed as “pretty good” Boban’s two-length fourth behind quality mare Appearance given he was deep and exposed without cover from the 800 metres.
“Under the circumstances I thought he ran pretty good,” Waller said.
“He’s a difficult horse and he needs racing. He got away with it last preparation with a couple of easy kills.
“We’ll step him up to the mile (1600m) and he’ll race a bit more tractably as that freshness comes out of him.
“Sure, it’s not ideal, but our team is a good team and we’ll get him back. I’m confident of that.”
Waller said plans remained intact for Boban to progress to the Group 1 Chipping Norton (1600m) at Warwick Farm on March 8.
In that race he is again likely to face Appearance, while New Zealand champion It’s a Dundeel will make his return.
