This Saturday represents a fairly low-key day for Australian racing. However, it is a good way to break up the nights with the cricket and the golf! There is a potential star in the first at Rosehill plus and old boy looking to turn back the clock. At Flemington there is an unbeaten French flavour in the second and an Adelaide raider in the seventh. At Eagle Farm there is an old favourite resuming and a talented mare that owes us.
Rosehill
Race 1 No.1 – Bull Point. Legendary racecaller Ian Craig had one betting strategy; bet on race one number one. Bull Point fits this category! The colt has had just two starts. First up he came from last to win a highly rated two-year-old race by two lengths with a turn of foot the likes of which is rarely demonstrated by young horses. Next the colt was narrowly beaten by another boom youngster Eurozone. On this occasion Bull Point did a lot wrong to only be beaten around half a length. He looks ideally suited in Saturday’s race and with a hungry Gai back in town, this youngster should be right in the finish.
Race 6 No.4 – Kontiki Park. This gelding is in a deep race but he has class personified and even gets a little bit of weight relief. Kontiki Park has had over 60kg in his first two runs this time in but drops to 57.5kg on Saturday and has Hugh Bowman on board. The gelding has won over this trip multiple times in his long career and he just looks to get the perfect run on Saturday. $11 represents huge value.
Flemington
Race 2 No.2 – Under The Louvre. Not much to say here. Two starts for two wins and the stable is on fire. This colt has looked very impressive so far in his short career and Flemington looks like it will really suit him. $5.
Race 7 No.4 – Aregee Mclaren. This is a huge rise in class for the Adelaide visitor, but the turn of foot he showed first up made everyone stand up and take notice. This fella is a bit like Cape Kidnappers in Queensland. They are lightly raced even as a five-year-olds and that is because the trainers fell they will improve as older horses; much like Hay List. Let’s hope they are both half as good as Hay List because they are both favourites of the Home Of Racing.
Eagle Farm
Race 7 No.3 – Funtantes. Finally this most consistent mare is in a winnable race, with a fair weight and a good barrier. She will get to the front at some stage and is fit and hard and ready to win. She also has a very talented 2kg apprentice aboard as to add more weight relief. If she gets an early lead then look out.
Race 7 No.1 – Grey Assignment. The boy was a revelation last spring. He almost won the race after the Melbourne Cup at Flemington, only to be beaten by an inch at $21. He should have residual fitness and has plenty of class. Barrier one and Munce on should cancel out his 60kg. Whatever he does on Saturday, he will definitely improve on and look out for him in Melbourne again in the spring.
