Zeb’s Tips For Doomben & Rosehill (Sat, May 10)

Doomben hosts the first Group One race of the carnival on Saturday and there is a tremendous support card to back up the BTC Cup. Rosehill also has a nice little meeting that looks as if it will provide plenty of value. Here are a few from each meeting that are worth a second look or even a bet!

Doomben

Furbish (race 4 number 3). Write the name of this gelding down. He is a freak. Trust me! He is $7.50 at the minute and this is clearly his toughest test to date. Also the 1200m does not suit. But stay with him because eventually he will be very hard to beat in the Atkins and the Sires’ later in the winter; he is still classy enough to grind home and win this 1200m race. His closing sectionals at his last two starts have been unbelievable; he looks like he is going to run 10th, then he picks up and flies home. After just winning last start, Jim Byrne shook his head after passing the post. Write this gelding’s name down and remember him for later in the winter.

Pheidon (race 6 number 2). There is a rumour that this Waterhouse runner has been training the house down this week. This paired with the fact that this is a very thin race leads this gelding to be the best east coast chance of the weekend. He gave Arabian Gold a good race on a wet track last start and he has certainly come on since then. He will be very hard to beat.

Cape Kidnappers (race 8 number 2). This gelding has had ten starts for seven wins and three seconds. This is a tough race with the likes of Excellantes and Our Boy Malachi both engaged, however Cape Kidnappers has a huge class advantage on these two and he can stalk the speed and fly home. Injury and wet tracks are the only reason he is not ten from ten. He will be flying home.

Rosehill

Shahad (race 4 number 3). This beautifully bred filly is uncompetitive on wet tracks. We have seen that at her last few starts. But her last start on a good track resulted in a good win where she beat a pretty handy field and did it with style. She will sit up on the pace and Rosehill certainly advantages the on pace horses. Worth an each way bet if the track is dry.

Dream Empress (race 5 number 5). On ANZAC Day this mare won really really well. She has always been pretty good and might just be set for her best ever preparation this time in. She can run really good time and travel at a good clip. Both these attributes will ensure she is very hard to beat at Rosehill on Saturday.
