Zeb’s Tips For Flemington (Sat, May 10)

While most of the attention this week will be on the Group One races at Morphettville and Doomben, there is great meeting at Flemington. Meetings at Flemington cannot be ignored, especially meetings like Saturday’s where there are huge fields with plenty of chances and plenty of value.

Here are the best for Saturday at Flemington.

Belle Couture (race 3 number 10). It is easy to get caught up in the hype in regards to this filly. She is after all Black Caviar’s half-sister. But the truth is she is very very good. This family has not missed as young horses and this filly looks to be an ever improving type. She is currently $5 and she is worth a bet just in case she is another All Too Hard or Moshe. If she wins and wins stylishly we may never get $5 again. Simply on her pedigree she is worth a bet at great odds.

Lonhspresso (race 6 number 4). On 16 November 2013 this mare was beaten just 4 lengths by Lankan Rupee at WFA when she found the worst part of the track. Just over a year ago she beat Essay Raider and Shamal Wind in a good race; Essay Raider is in the market in the Goodwood and Shamal Wind is acknowledged as a very good sprinting mare. On Saturday Lonhspresso will carry just 52.5kg with the help of Harry Coffey’s claim and she looks very close to a good thing. She is the clear best of the day Australia wide.

Unchain My Heart (race 7 number 7). Despite being named after a pretty average Joe Cocker song, this mare is a terrific stayer. She was over ran by the jumper Gotta Take Care at her last start on ANZAC Day, but that gelding is a freak and this mare was jumping straight from 1700m to 2600m and her condition just gave out. She is fitter now and this is a distance she thrives at (two from four at 2800m). She never runs a bad race and she is currently at each way value. Great chance.

Specter (race 8 number 17). This grey gelding has to win eventually. He is a bit of a non-winner but he has run second at his last four starts. He is always at a good price and he can position himself on the pace or just off them if required. He is in good form and he has the credentials to be a spring horse if he can finally put it all together. His best will go close to winning this race and he is at each way value.
