Three Melbourne Cup Runners Backing Up In Today’s Japan Cup

Today sees the running of the 32nd Japan Cup at Fuchu racecourse in Tokyo. Three Melbourne Cup runners are backing up in the Japan Cup and they are Jakkalberry who finished 3rd in the Melbourne Cup, Mount Athos and Red Cadeaux.

Both Mount Athos and Red Cadeaux have drawn well in barrier 5 and 6 respectively. Jakkalberry has drawn barrier 11. Connections have reported that all 3 horses have been fit and well.

However they would have to break the Japan Cup drought for the visitors since the last overseas winner was Alkaased in 2005. And they would have to overcome last season’s Japanese triple crown winner and reigning Japan Champion Horse Of The Year, Orfevre. The French mare Solemia who won the Arc last month will also provide stiff opposition.

The Japan Cup will be run at 5.40pm AEST.
