Japanese Runners Completed The Trifecta In The Japan Cup

Japanese filly Gentildonna had won the Japan Cup beating race favourite Orfevre in Tokyo on Sunday.

Gentildonna is trained by Sei Ishizaka and ridden by Yasunari Iwata, who won the 2006 Melbourne Cup aboard Delta Blues. She finished a nose in front of Orfevre with the Criag Williams ridden Rulership finishing third.

Orfevre has once again settled for second in an international Group 1 race having finished runner-up in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris last month to another Japan Cup challenger, Solemia, who could only manage 13th.

Melbourne Cup runners Red Cadeaux, Jakkalberry and Mount Athos were never in the race and finished 8th, 11th and 12th respectively.
